Medicare Annual Election Period, also referred to as Open Enrollment, is running through December 7th. This is the time to choose your 2016 Medicare plan. Call toll free today at 1-844-771-3966. You may be happy with your current plan and want to keep it for 2016, but be aware that there are changes every year and what you don’t know may end up costing you in the long run.
The Three (3) Reasons to Compare Your Medicare Plans Each Year:
- Your current plan may have changed the benefits they offer for the 2016 plan year. Plans can change everything from the premium and copay amounts to which tier your medications belong. Most of these changes will have an effect on what you pay over the course of the year. To understand how your plan has changed, you can refer to the Annual Notice of Change document that your plan would have sent out to you in late September or the first part of October. Often referred to as ANOC, the Annual Notice of Change should outline every change that is being made to your plan. It can include drug tier changes, co-payment changes, and even changes to your monthly premium. If you have questions about what is changing with your plan, please call your plan directly as they are the only one that can walk you through the full changes. You can normally reach them by calling the customer service phone number on the back of your card.
- Other plans that you’ve looked at in the past may have changed their benefits and may now be a better fit for you. In the same way that your plan may have changed, other plans may have done the same, so using a comparison from the previous year isn’t accurate anymore. By calling an agent that work with multiple plan types, you can compare up to date information on a variety of plans, and this way you stand a better chance of finding the plan that fits your needs the closest.
- Your circumstances may have changes and you need different coverage. Changes in your health can be as small as your doctor changing your medication to a different drug for the same condition, or you may have a new or different medical diagnoses, all of which may have an impact on whether your plan is still the right one for you. Given that the Annual Election Period is the only time of the year that most people can change their Medicare plan, it’s important to review all your medications with an agent so they can help you compare the plans. It’s always a good idea to have your medications close by when calling so that you can provide the information over the phone when asked.
